Metroid Zero Mission Walkthrough
Throughout the game, you will encounter many different enemies and power-ups. This section will provide you with general strategies to improve your chances of snagging every single one.
In this room with the spinning shields (called hallucinations in-game) destroy all the blocks on the right side of the wall to open up an overhead passage. Enter the door on the left to continue toward mother brain.
Wall Jump
When Samus collides with a wall, she can jump upwards off of it. This mechanic is very important in Metroid Zero Mission and can unlock a slew of secret passages and expansions around Zebes.
To perform a wall jump, the player must spin jump towards the wall and press the jump button once more upon colliding with the wall. This requires pixel and frame perfect inputs to pull off correctly and is one of the most difficult maneuvers in the game.
The player can also perform a modified wall jump on chocolate ground by utilizing the same technique and pushing away from the wall after hitting it. This is much less accurate, however, and should only be used when the normal wall jump would not work, such as in a narrow tunnel. Once the player has mastered this maneuver, they can make quick progress through a number of areas. This is especially useful when using the Speed Booster and Shinespark, as it allows them to skip a lot of items in the early stages of the game.
Bomb Jump
Bomb Jump is a key skill in Zero Mission for reaching new areas and discovering secrets. The idea is simple: place a bomb and, when it’s about to explode, immediately place another, at 75% of the height of the first bomb’s explosion. The second bomb will then take you up into the third, which will explode and propel you even higher if timed correctly. It’s a little tricky but well worth the effort.
For example, in the room with the flying pests and their hives, use a bomb jump to leap across three slowly deteriorating blocks and enter the Navigation Room. Here, you can find a missile tank and a secret passage.
You can also ladder bomb jumps, which allow you to gain additional height. Place a bomb at the start of your jump, place the next bomb at the apex, and then lay a final bomb in the middle. When timed right, this will allow you to fall into the DBJ formed by bombs five and six, giving you a boost of height at the peak.
Super Jump
The Super Jump is a maneuver that can be used in the midst of combat to scale walls and grab power-ups. It works by allowing Samus to leap while holding the jump button. In mid-air, if the player presses the jump button again while in a spin jump, an afterimage will be seen behind Samus, allowing her to reach areas of the map that would otherwise be out of her range.
While it is not required for the zero mission walkthrough, if you want to complete the game quickly and collect all power-ups, mastering the Super Jump is essential. The best way to learn how it works is by practicing in the Practice Range. Just be careful when using it in battle as enemies can see Samus’ position before she lands, and she is left vulnerable for a short moment after landing. Also, remember to use the Super Jump sparingly, as it uses a charge-up.
Gravity Suit
In addition to the ability to withstand high gravity, the Gravity Suit allows Samus to move freely underwater. It also protects her from cold, and prevents her from being drained of energy by the unnamed liquid in Tourian.
The Gravity Suit is not a consumable item, and is only available once Samus has defeated Phantoon and accessed the Wrecked Ship via glitched means. However, it is an important item to have for the later parts of the game, as it allows Samus to float through the air and use the Space Jump and Bomb Jump without being drained of energy.
Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Gravity Industries is still pushing forward with its jetsuit. It’s already working with paramedics to treat people at high altitudes, is performing ship-to-ship flights for the military, and has a race series in the works (think F1 or Red Bull Air Race). It also offers “experience days” for groups that include training with its suits.
